Pre-Screening: Do You Qualify?

Education

A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university (in education, special education, speech-language pathology, or a related field).
Official transcripts in English or accompanied by certified translations.

Teaching Experience

Minimum 2 years of formal teaching experience (preferably in a K–12 setting).
For Speech-Language Pathologists: Clinical or school-based experience is required.

English Proficiency

You must speak and write English fluently.
Preferred: IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL 79+ (depending on visa type and employer requirements).

Documentation

Valid passport (must not expire within 6 months).
Police clearance/criminal background check from your country.
Updated resume/CV and 2 professional references.

Willingness to Relocate

Commitment to work in Kansas City, Missouri, for at least 2 academic years.

Emergency Teaching Certificate through DESE

Missouri offers an Emergency Teaching Certificate for qualified individuals, including international educators. Blue Diamond will support your application and help you navigate the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) process.

The J-1 Teacher Exchange Program is a popular option for international teachers. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, it allows educators to teach in the U.S. for up to 5 years.

Important J-1 Visa Dates:

  • Application Opens: January
  • Preferred Deadline for Submission: April 30
  • Latest Placement Deadline: July 15
  • S. School Start Dates: August 1–15
